Craft Steel Construction Group successfully managed the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPC) of a key grain export terminal. This project was designed to significantly enhance efficiency in grain receiving, storage, and shipping, boasting a robust storage capacity of over 180,000 tonnes.
Innovative Loop Railway
A standout feature of the terminal is the loop railway system, which accommodates three 150-wagon trains at once. This setup allows trains to unload while in motion, enabling them to seamlessly return to main elevators without detaching from their locomotives.
Phased Approach & Early Contractor Participation
The project began under an Early Contractor Participation contract before transitioning to the EPC phase. During this period, the team:
- Developed the design while addressing construction and operational challenges
- Kept the project on schedule and within budget
- Introduced designated check-in points for cost-saving measures and risk mitigation
EPC Mandate & Scope of Work
Under the EPC mandate, Craft Steel Construction Group delivered a comprehensive scope of work:
- Building 48 concrete grain storage silos
- Constructing two slip-formed structures for weighing and cleaning facilities
- Carrying out marine construction for a wharf and ship loading facility
- Creating two underpasses, along with access roads and site improvements
- Implementing various conveyance systems and processing buildings
- Demolishing existing above-ground structures
- Enhancing the wharf and improving onshore land
