Biomass-Fired Boiler Project

Craft Steel Construction Group successfully completed the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of a 550,000-pound-per-hour biomass-fired boiler. Operating at 1,345 psi absolute and 900°F, this high-pressure boiler includes an installed steam turbine generator (STG) that fully replaces the former coal-fired units. The new system significantly increases efficiency and reduces emissions, ensuring compliance with stringent environmental regulations.

Ancillary Systems

In addition to the main boiler, the project involved designing and implementing several supporting systems:

  • New baghouse system
  • Ash storage and handling equipment
  • Surface steam condenser
  • Boiler feedwater pumps
  • Biomass fuel park with hydraulic truck bins/buckets
  • Truck scale and conveyors
  • Disc screen and hammer mill
  • Circular stacker reclaimer
  • Biomass classification and sizing system

Project Scope & Integration

Covering three key areas of the plant, the project required seamless integration with existing equipment and structures. Interconnected conveyors, piping, and electrical connections were developed and installed with a particular focus on the 400-foot by 400-foot electrical block. Meticulous planning and precise execution ensured the overall success of this high-profile endeavor.
